Helm’s History
After leaving home to come live with Uncle Rufus in Hommlet, Helm eavesdropped on a meeting of their secret society of protectors of the area. He heard about all the many threats they faced, and that the area was prone to the raising of cults of evil and dead gods. Helm was discovered by Jaroo Ashstaff, the druid of Hommlet, and the society warned him to stay clear of bad cults. So Helm decided to devote himself to the service of the human god Saint Cuthbert to put down any cults that rose up in the area. He attended the seminary in The Free City of Greyhawk before studying under The College of Bishops in Verbobonc.
Helm’s Memory:
Upon attaining Deaconship in the Free City of Greyhawk, Helm was invited to a meeting of students in an abandoned tower of the old Churchyard. His friend Geldron was very enthusiastic about the new study group and persuaded Helm to join. At the meeting Helm met a young lady that he found himself fascinated with. Her name was Willerandyth Wytherwind, and she was a half elven daughter of a former adventuring paladin. After attending one meeting, Helm realized that the group was attempting to subvert the catechism of Saint Cuthbert and he invited Willerandyth to the library to do some research. Together they found indications that the practices revealed ties to the type of worship of Nerull. Willerandyth of course thought it was ridiculous but Helm told the brothers in charge of his learning coterie. Eventually, the faculty routed out a cult and killed them, including Helm’s friend Geldron. Willerandyth escaped the clergy’s wrath but was expelled and never spoke to Helm again.
I guess some people just need to be in a cult, said Helm
(not really, but maybe really)
